A Romantic Outdoorsy E-Session at Eaton Canyon in Pasadena, Calfornia

Lawrence knows how his fiancé, DeNeitra, feels about holidays and birthdays so it was no surprise that she suggested a trip to Cambria, California to celebrate his birthday and July 4th weekend. He figured if they were going to go all out he better, “capitalize on this great opportunity to channel my inner president and deliver shock and awe.” Unsure of when he would propose that weekend he decided to let it be spontaneous because he would know when the right time came. DeNeitra did not think much of it when he decided to bring his guitar to their walk on the beach since it was something he usually did. As they set atop a boulder marveling at how majestic the beach was she felt the overwhelming need to pray. After she finished Lawrence began to play her a song he wrote about, as she wiped away her tears, still unaware of what was coming next he handed her a cupcake with the letters “DDB”, her initials but with the last letter changed. Confused, she looked up at him to see him holding another box, and then everything came together; with tears in her eyes, she agreed to be his wife. They planned a romantic outdoorsy photo shoot at Eaton Canyon with their photographer, Nicole Lennox, who captured how the couples deep connection. We hope they had an amazing time at their destination wedding in Mexico!

How They Met

Their photographer said, “The internet is an amazing place — DeNeitra and Lawrence met in high school, but their love story didn’t begin until years later when they reconnected on Facebook.”

The Proposal

Her Story
Lawrence and I traveled up the central coast to a cute beach town called Cambria. On our second day in Cambria, July 4th, the weather was gorgeous, the sun was shining and birds were chirping. Lawrence and I made plans to go to dinner before seeing the fireworks show, but decided to walk across the street to the beach first and hang out. I noticed Lawrence brought his guitar with him on the trip, which was not really out of norm because he typically brought his guitar to the beach. When we got there, we saw a huge rock that was perfect to sit on so we climbed on the rock and watched the waves. I told Lawrence I wanted to pray – I mean, here we are in this beautiful town on a gorgeous day with the ocean waves as our soundtrack sitting on top of a rock, how could you not think about God in that moment? Anyhow, after I prayed Lawrence told me he wrote a song for me so he pulls out his guitar and sings me the most amazing song. I, of course cried like a baby, but had no clue what was coming.
After the song he pulled a cupcake box out of the cooler and handed it to me (mind you, still clueless – I just thought oh wow, a cupcake, lol). I opened the cupcake box and it read “DDB?” I’m completely dumbfounded and confused, what is DDB (mind you DD represent my first and middle initial and the B represents the initial of Lawrence’s last name). As I’m staring at the cupcake I see him pull a small red box out of the guitar case- FINALLY it hit me. I was like, “this is not happening, is this happening, this is NOT happening!” He got on one knee and asked if I would marry him. Through tears, many tears (the ugly cry, y’all) I somehow managed a yes. :)

His Story

Anyone that knows DeNeitra knows she is all about celebrating birthdays and often does in magnificently over the top fashion, so it’s no surprise that she would look to celebrate my birthday in a grandiose manner despite my pleas for a low key celebration. She planned a trip to a small beach town, Cambria to celebrate my birthday and the 4th of July, so of course I wisely capitalized on this great opportunity to channel my inner president and deliver shock and awe. I knew that as excited as she was about what she planned to celebrate my birthday there was no way she would see it coming. Prior to the trip, I knew I would propose, but decided to wait for the moment and just go with the flow rather than trying to execute a detailed plan for an event planner on a trip planned by her. So here we are…on this large rock elevated above the sand overlooking the Pacific Ocean. DeNeitra decided to pray (it was a beautiful prayer) and unknown to her perfectly timed. It was then I knew the time had come. What better way to propose a new beginning than first acknowledging the creator while taking in the awesomeness of the beach – one of his most beautiful creations and one of our favorite past times.
Out came the guitar. I proceeded with the song – she proceeded with the tears. Meanwhile I’m looking back and forth between her and the ocean trying not to let my situational allergies flare up (a.k.a. cry). Queue the “DDB?” cupcake and the confused look on her face. Her current initials are “DDV”; the “B” on the cupcake represents the first initial of my last name. To be honest I was not intending for her to understand what the cupcake said in that moment so it worked perfectly as the distraction it was intended to be. While she was looking at the cupcake, I pulled out the first ring box and then the second ring box (one ring…two boxes), revealed the ring, knelt before her and asked, “Will you marry me?” As you know, she said, “Yes.” And as my Grandma Mary would say…”that’s the story!”

The Engagement Session

Initially we wanted something more hip and urban for our engagement pictures and considered having the session in Downtown L.A.. I changed my mind when I saw a gorgeous outdoor engagement session and could imagine how awesome it would be to have natural light, beautiful trees, and my amazing fiancé next to me. Lawrence was game so we headed to Eaton Canyon just before sunset. The lighting was so perfect and we had a great time.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

Having our closest family and friends relax and enjoy our destination wedding in Mexico and most of all I’m looking forward to marrying my absolute best friend!

There were fireworks in the air when Brittany met Jonathan during 4th of July weekend in 2007, from the moment they met she felt a connection. He caught her eye as he was manning the grill at a friends cookout and when they were introduced their were immediate sparks.  When the weekend festivities were over she went back to the University of Georgia, but they kept in contact and remained friends. Two years after they reconnected and began dating he proposed last spring in front of their family and friends. For their photo shoot they decided to go back to her university for a nostalgic trip down memory lane with Fotos by Fola, which featured scenes of the beach and downtown Athens.

How They Met

Jonathan and I met Fourth of July weekend in Albany, Georgia in 2007. Our love story was 7 years in the making and worth every moment. At the time I was completing my undergraduate studies at The University of Georgia, in need of a weekend getaway for the holiday; I traveled to Albany, Georgia with my girlfriends to let loose and spend time with my family and friends. We first saw each other at a cookout, Jonathan was working the grill and was just too cute! Seriously…He immediately captured my attention! It was there when my friends from Albany State University introduced us we immediately hit it off and had a GREAT time. I loved his southern charm, he was such a gentleman and showed me that chivalry is still alive and well! We went to see fireworks together. Jonathan was incredibly handsome, kind, smart, and funny, I sincerely saw how genuine his heart was. He is truly a man after God’s own heart and I remember looking at him and thinking, “Wow, God showed out when he made you.” Little did I know he felt the same way about me! Little did we both know that God’s blueprint for our lives would lead us back to each other. God can truly dream a bigger dream for you… and for us, God’s plan was far beyond anything we both could have ever imagined! (Jeremiah 29:11). After our introduction, we became great friends and checked on each other often as we embarked down separate paths. In the summer of 2011, we reconnected and became a couple.

The Proposal

In the spring of 2013, Jonathan asked me to be is wife over Sunday dinner in front of family and friends. After serenading me as only he can, Jonathan got down on one knee and presented me with a jewelry box with a gorgeous ring inside! I ecstatically accepted, this was hands down one of the best days of our lives. We truly see God’s hand in it all!

The Engagement Session

We chose to take a stroll back down memory lane for our engagement shoot! We met while we both were in college, so we thought it would be romantic to travel back to where our love story began. We traveled to Athens, Georgia, the Classic City, which is home to the greatest university in the world..The University of Georgia. We spent time relaxing at the beach, sightseeing, and enjoying the night life of the city, the engagement session truly captured the essence of who we are: loving, passionate, and adventurous!

Looking Forward to the Wedding

We are looking forward to committing ourselves to each other and becoming one flesh in holy matrimony before God. We are also looking forward to sharing our love and big day with all of our family and friends, this means so much to us.

A strong friendship can develop into the greatest romance. Thamar Esperance and Joe Smith III met during law school. Joe worked in the admissions office, and he was always there whenever Thamar had questions or needed guidance. They soon became the best of friends, and after 4 ½ years of dating Joe was ready to propose. He got down on one knee and pledged his endless devotion to Thamar at a restaurant in front of her parents.  This sweet couple is looking forward to having a vintage and romantic wedding, and they wanted their engagement session to have the same feel.  Their photographer Salomon Sylvestre took the couple to Bear Mountain in New York to capture the most timeless backdrops and landscapes that helped make their e-session a vintage dream.

How They Met

I met Joe my first year of law school, when I went to visit the law school he was the tour guide. He was a third year law student and I was an incoming first year student. Joe was working in the admissions office and he was the first person I met from the law school. He was so caring and attentive that I would find myself going to him whenever I had a question about school or the new city I was living in. Pretty soon we became the best of friends.

The Proposal

After being inseparable for 4 1/2 years Joe decided that we should visit my parents in New York for dinner. We took the 2 hour drive and Joe asked my parents for my hand in marriage. Later that night at Ruth’s Chris restaurant Joe got down on one knee in the middle of the restaurant and asked me to be marry him. I was totally surprised and so glad to share such an amazing moment in my life with my parents.

The Engagement Session

Our engagement session had a vintage theme to go along with our vintage romance wedding theme. I carefully picked out vintage outfits, hair, and makeup.  On the actual day of the engagement session our photographer suggested we go to Bear Mountain where we had the most gorgeous timeless backdrops and landscapes. Joe and I were ourselves and we hope that our love shines through our photos. I know that I will always treasure them and the vintage theme makes them classic and timeless.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

We are looking forward to having a great time with our friends and family while watching all of the pieces come together.

The couple’s paths crossed during Elizabeth’s freshman year of Tuskegee University as her brother crossed into Kappa Alpha Psi, James was his line brother. Although they knew of each other, James said their first conversation was not until her junior year, but due to his thick Bahamian accent, she could not understand him. He invited her to a fraternity party and they exchanged number and eventually began dating. After being in a long distance relationship, she was in St. Louis, Missouri he was in Knoxville; she decided to move closer to him. On his last trip to see her, they decided to hang out with friend’s downtown, but she went to the wrong place; her friends convinced her to come to different location. Unbeknownst to her James has planned a surprise proposal for her at the Gateway Arch. Their photographer Katie helped create a romantic vintage themed photo shoot at a classic mansion built in the 20s. We hope this couple has a beautiful destination wedding in the Bahamas next month.

How They Met

James and I met for the first time during my freshman at Tuskegee University. My brother just crossed Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity Inc. and he just so happened to be one his line brothers. It was not until my junior year we had what James believes to be our first conversation. I on the other hand, I could not understand him because of his heavy Bahamian accent. I did not want to be rude so ended the conversation but before I could walk away James invited me to his fraternities party they were having the following evening. At the party, I saw James and gave him my phone number so we could continue our conversation though text messages. Little did I know that this was his plan all along and the rest is history.

The Proposal

Three years later, I was living in St. Louis Missouri while James was living in Knoxville Tennessee. I accepted a position in a city closer to Knoxville so that we could see each other more often. During James final trip to St Louis, we decided to visit one of my favorite sushi restaurants together with friends one last time. Unaware of his plans, I drove to the nearest location of the restaurant not realizing I arrived at the wrong destination. I call one of my friends to see where they were and they insisted we came to meet them at the restaurant downtown location. When we arrived, James asked if we could stop by the arch one last time before we left. Surrounded by some of my closest friends James proposed to me. It was such a surprise and the happiest day of our lives.

The Engagement Session

We wanted our engagement photos to be modern with a vintage undertone, something that would stand the test of time. So we chose to have our session at an elegant, classically styled mansion built in 1920s. We are so happy that Katie was able to see our vision. Our photos truly capture the hidden moments James and I shared together and the true beauty of our love.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

James and I will be saying I do in Freeport, Bahamas on April 5th. We both look forward to seeing each other on our wedding day, exchange vows and becoming one in front of our friends, family, and most importantly God.

Technology is amazing it, with a simple touch of a button you can meet a stranger in Japan or reconnect with old friend with a simple online game.  Jacquel and Dennis began chatting back and forth on Facebook, he assisted her on her move to Washington, D.C. and soon they began dating.  Christmas day he decided to spend the evening at her families house for dinner, after they ate and began exchanging gifts he said he had one more present. He gave her a large wrapped cylinder, which she unwrapped to find a vase full of Lindor chocolates and at the bottom a small box. As she turned to look at him he was on his knees asking for her hand in marriage. For their engagement shoot their photographer Pharris Photography planned a simple and sweet photo shoot in that would incorporate how they met and highlight their natural love for each other. We wish the couple the best on the upcoming nuptials. JAF_6407-Edit JAF_5891 JAF_5902 JAF_5927 JAF_5990-Edit JAF_6004-Edit JAF_6013-Recovered JAF_6078-Recovered JAF_6099 JAF_6123-Edit JAF_6127-Edit JAF_6147-Edit JAF_6155-Edit JAF_6164 JAF_6176-Edit JAF_6205-Edit JAF_6233-Edit JAF_6253-Edit JAF_6262-Edit JAF_6279-Edit JAF_6280-Edit JAF_6310-Edit JAF_6347-Edit JAF_6386-Edit

Dennis and Jacquel reconnected through Facebook and the popular game Words with Friends. During Jacquel’s move to the DC area, Dennis offered to help with the big move. Thus beginning a budding relationship.

The Proposal

Dennis came over to the Haywood house Christmas Day to fellowship, open gifts, and chow down and after everyone was done opening up their gifts, Dennis said he had one more. Jacquel had no idea what was happening or why everyone got so quiet he returned with a large wrapped cylinder. Jacquel opened the wrapped gift to find lots of Lindor chocolate truffles inside…she thought that was the gift. Dennis told her to dig into the cylinder. Jacquel found a small wrapped box inside the cylinder and opened it. In it, was another box. As she opened the second box, Dennis got down on one knee. When she looked up from the box he asked, “Will you marry me?” Without hesitation Jacquel said “yes” and shed a few tears. Dennis placed the ring on her finger and they shared their first kiss towards the rest of their lives.

The Engagement Session

Dennis and Jacquel took pictures at a park in Sugarland, Texas. They desired to have nice pictures in a natural setting and were able to utilize different spots at the park to create versatile photo shoot. Isa Mass and Maximilian Sapetti found love on the dance floor.  They met in their hometown of Modena, Italy while dancing with friends. When they locked eyes from across the room, they knew they had a special connection, and a year from that day Max popped the question.  Isa shares, “We never saw each other before that night, but we both grew up in Modena, our houses are a five minutes from each other, we went to the same schools and have many friends in common. What a better place for our engagement than our beloved little city?”  Even though it was a bit cold and cloudy on the day of their e-session, the couple braved the weather with their photographer Mariela Care of Bob Care Photography. Their photo shoot took them from the romantic 18th century gardens and famous arcades in Modena, to Verona City, a place that inspired Shakespeare. We wish this charming couple all of the best on their upcoming double weddings. One will be in Modena with family and friends, and a second will be just the two of them on the beach in Islamorada, Florida. How romantic!

How They Met

From Isa: We met in the city were we both born, Modena one day we decided to spend the night dancing with friends. Our eyes joined together many times that night and we soon started dating. One year from that day Max popped the question and I said, “Yes!” after a romantic weekend in the mountains. We never saw each other before that night, but we both grew up in Modena, our houses are a five minutes from each other, we went to the same schools and have many friends in common. What a better place for our engagement than our beloved little city?

The Engagement Session

The day was cold and cloudy, but for the happiness of our photographer Mariela Care, a dear friend of mine, and we had a lot of fun trying to warm each other and then running to the next place, from the romantic 18th century’s gardens to the famous arcades in the center of the city. The colors of a unusually warm winter were really similar to the autumn ones and we choose Earth colors for our outfits, to be natural and feel really part of the soft background, our second location was Verona city, the place that inspired Shakespeare.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

Because we love to travel together, we decided to have a double wedding: the first one in Modena, with all the friends and family members to celebrate again, me and Max alone, in a beautiful beach in Islamorada Florida, one of the Keys Islands, that will be our first international trip together, we are so excited for this, and for all the wedding preparations. For me, choosing my wedding dress will be an occasion to spend happy moments with the women of my family and my best girlfriends.

Jon, who is originally from Memphis, Tennessee, accepted a baseball scholarship at one of the local colleges in Birmingham, AL.  One day, after months of seeing Stephanie around campus, Jon spotted her near the baseball field.  There, he approached Stephanie and asked for her phone number.

The Proposal

After six years of exclusive dating, Jon felt the time was ideal to propose.  To surprise Stephanie, he invited his family from Tennessee to Birmingham to dine with hers.  While at the dinner, Jon’s four-year-old cousin walked up to Stephanie with a ring in hand asking if she would marry Jon.  They were both excited about the proposal and Stephanie’s agreeing to accept, but Jon was ecstatic that both families were present to witness it.

The Engagement Session
We knew that we wanted something fun and exciting to commemorate our engagement.  When the carnival arrived in town at just the right time we planned to take photos, we were certain that this would be our theme.  We wanted fresh, colorful and whimsical and the carnival provided all of that.  Our favorite photo is of the kiss just under the Ferris wheel.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

Stephanie and Jon are madly in love and can’t wait to become husband and wife.  Besides the beautiful  and intimate ceremony being held in Stephanie’s parents’ backyard, they are both looking forward to their families officially being united as a result of their marriage.

How They Met

One of my line sisters and I traveled to Miami for Memorial Day weekend. We decided to go to TGI Fridays for dinner and opted to eat outside on the patio. Amongst all the chaos my line sister noticed two guys pull up in front of the restaurant on motorcycles and decided to go ask one of them if she could take a picture on the bike, I decided to go with her. After we took our pictures, she started to chat it up with the friendly biker, leaving me standing there. I noticed the other biker was sort of staring at me, so my liquid encouragement led me to boldly walk up to him and ask him what was wrong with him! He looked at me as if I was crazy and said, “What’s wrong with you…who are you?” He was cute so I smiled and said, “Sorry I’m Raven and you are? He responded with “you have such a pretty smile and I’m Tracy.” We chatted it up about the usual stuff, occupations, what HBCU’s we went to, Greek Life, etc. and all four of us made plans to meet up later that evening. Later on that night the bikers met up with us as planned, we decided to go our separate ways, Tracy, and I ended up on the beach. We literally stayed there ALL night until the sun rose talking about everything that we could possibly think of, and we pretty much hung out the remainder of the trip. When it was time to go home I was actually sad, he lived in Atlanta and I lived in DC. When I got home we still kept in contact, and our texts turned into daily conversations, which turned into weekend trips to visit each other, the rest is history.

The Proposal

We took a quick vacation to the Bahamas and decided to hang out in Miami a couple of days after we returned. We went to eat on the same patio at TGI Fridays where we met. We stood up to have the manger take a picture of us and all of a sudden a man comes out of nowhere with a video camera with the bright flash on directly in my face, I looked around and didn’t have a clue what was going on. The manager took our picture and Tracy says, “Wait there’s something else”…”You’ve got lipstick on your teeth” and wipes it off for me. Then dropped down on one knee, I honestly do not remember anything he said I was so shocked. I kept backing further and further away from him and eventually he pulled me back to him and asked, “Will you Marry Me?” I remember saying, “Are you Serious…YES” and I started crying. I looked up and the entire restaurant, wait staff included was in tears as well. It was special.

The Engagement Session

We wanted something different, something that you do not normally see in engagement pictures. Tracy and his entire family are really into old school cars and racing so we thought it would be unique to incorporate that in one of our shots.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

We truly are best friends; we look forward to spending forever together.

Domonic and Vanessa share a timeless love story, which was captured during their engagement session. Friends since they were in high school the two reconnected after the bride graduated from college, they went on a group date and have been together ever since. As they celebrated their seventh year of being together, he planned a surprise proposal asking her to spend the rest of her life with him. For their engagement session, the couple wanted something that had a fun and romantic vintage feel to coincide with their 1930’s wedding theme. ColdPiece Photography did an amazing job transporting you back in time before the era of selfies and snapchat with the vintage color and look the photos had.

How They Met

We met in high school in the 9th grade. At the time, he had a girlfriend, and for some strange reason, she hated my guts. We were only just friends, and to be honest, as a shy 9th grader, I was a threat to no one’s girlfriend. The next year, I moved away to a new city, and did not see Domonic again until I had graduated from college. We went out on a group date for our first time out, and have been together ever since.

The Proposal

Domonic proposed to me on our seventh anniversary, at a party that we had thrown for the occasion. Little did I know that he had plotted with my close friends and family, to surprise me with the engagement. I was so stunned that I wanted to laugh and cry at the same time. It was a lovely day!

The Engagement Session

Our theme for this engagement shoot was a vintage look. Our wedding theme was set to be a 1930′s theme (a la the movie “Idlewild”), so we wanted the engagement shoot to match that. Our photographer is a very good friend of ours, so it was a very easy and quick shoot. We had lots of fun and we were very happy with the outcome.

I was able to pull together our looks with things we already had, and accessories from Zoe’s Vintique in Los Angeles. Janelle Black of FaceMeFierce in LA did my makeup as well.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

We’re both looking forward to spending a beautiful day together with all of our family and friends.

Candace took Kelis’s song “Milkshake” literally, when she hooked her fiancé Andrew. He said she brought him the “best vanilla milkshake ever,” 11 years later he is still in love. They meet in 2003 at Fairleigh Dickenson University through a mutual friend and have not looked back. The bride-to-be said she knew he was the one by how he treated her, “He was spontaneous and full of surprises. He shows me what a true gentleman is and always treats me like a queen.” For their engagement session, their planner said they wanted to capture the essence of the couple, “We decided to go with a couple of places throughout NJ to incorporate all of the elements that captured the couples sweet, classic, and adventurous love,’ Their planner Emma said. “The ‘Sweet’ reflects the milkshake Candace presented Andrew with on their very first meeting, the ‘Classic’ is a representation of Coca-Cola Classic bottles and the ‘Adventurous’ symbols Andrew’s passion for motorcycles and the adventurous side of the couple’s love.” Their sweet and classic engagement shoot done by Digna Toledo Photography  told their epic love story, which will culminate in their May wedding. We wish them the best of luck in their upcoming nuptials.

How They Met

Having met over a decade ago at Fairleigh Dickinson University, Drew and Candace have been madly in love ever since. Their mutual friend, Shelton Cleaves, introduced them in 2003 and they hit it off immediately. Andrew said, “What first attracted me to Candace was her incredible smile. On our first date, she bought me a vanilla milkshake and I have been hooked since then. We have been through the different seasons in our life together and still have the same spark as when we first met (11 years ago). She is a woman of God and always has my back. Every time I look at Candace, it is a look of admiration, peace, love, and trust.”

The Proposal

By 2012, the couple had been together for nine happy years and in that time they were blessed with a beautiful son, Master Aiden. Christmas Eve of that year, Master Aiden presented his mother with an early Christmas gift, a jewelry box. Candice smiled, thinking it was the pair of earrings she asked for, but once she opened it she realized the box was empty. When she looked up in confusion she found Andrew bent down on one knee before her, asking for her hand in marriage.

The Engagement Session

The phenomenal Digna Toledo of Digna Toledo Photography captured the couple’s engagement session. The couple’s wedding coordinator, Emma Pierre-Louis of Prestige Affairs Event Production, coordinated the milestone event and in collaboration with Digna, the pair came up with a memorable concept for the shoot. They decided that it was important that the couple’s personalities be incorporated into the photos, along with things that were of significance to them.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

“I’m looking forward to finally saying I do to Andrew, the love of my life, starting a new chapter in our lives, and sharing our special day with our family and friends.”

Jennifer and Kirk’s relationship was serendipitous or fortuitous happenstance; they met in college and ended up in the same study group, since then they bump into each other at the most random moments every few years. Finally, they realized that the universe must want them to be in each other’s lives, so they became friends and when both were single, began dating. Last year Kirk planned an elaborate proposal at her job, he even flew both sets of parents out so they could be a part of it. Their engagement session was an artsy romantic photo shoot that took place at several locations where their photographer, Kristen Curette of KAC Photography  created beautiful shots, which translated the couples love and passion for each other perfectly. We wish the bride and groom all the best for their summer wedding!

How They Met

Jenn and I met a while ago, back in 2006, as students at the University of Houston. We had a communications class together and ended up at the same study session. While I didn’t know her that well, I knew right away that she was bright young woman. Fast-forward 3 years later, I had just graduated in fall of 2009 and decided to pursue a career in education. I got my alternative certification from Texas Teachers; the morning of the first seminar, I walked into the Sheraton Hotel near Bush Intercontinental Airport and heard a familiar voice call my name. It was Jennifer, who was also pursuing a career in teaching. We would see each other at sessions over the next month and a half and got to catch up with one another. I felt very comfortable around her and she felt the same way. We were both in a relationship at the time, so there was no romance, but she was someone with whom I wanted to keep in touch. Three more years passed, as I’m driving through Midtown on my way to Howl at the Moon, I stop abruptly because someone runs in front of my car. Peeking through the glaring headlights, I see that it’s none other than Jenn herself! She spotted me as well, and even though she was out on a date, came to my window and exchanged numbers with me. At this point, we both knew this was fate. From then on, we started spending time together, starting with a first date at Olive Garden, a romantic first kiss after that, and many other memories to come.
The Proposal

Last year, 2013, is when I decided that I wanted to spend my life with Jenn. She worked for Woodlands Elite Cheer Company at the time, and they were planning to have a huge parent showcase at the Woodlands Marriott. For months, I had been planning this event, but Jenn had no idea. I even arranged for my both our parents to be in town so they could be there to see it happen. The entire day I was nervous; Jenn could tell something was up, but she never could put her finger on it. After both of her teams finished competing, she stood on stage talking with the MC about their performance. I surprised her by walking out on stage, taking the microphone, and reciting a 9-line poem, I had prepared for her. She says she had no idea what was happening until she saw me on stage. It was perfect! What made it better was that a picture surfaced of the two of us on stage that is now framed in my apartment. Then, my friend wrote an article about us in the Houston Press titled “That Girl: An Engagement in 4 Songs”. We could not have been happier! Jenn and I continue to support each other through career challenges and personal stepping-stones, but most of all we believe that if God is first in our marriage, it will never fail!

The Engagement Session

Our engagement photo session was so much fun! We both hadn’t done anything like it before, but our photographer is an artistic genius! She told us what to do for the most part, but it all seemed so natural! From the early evening trip to the Japanese Gardens in Hermann Park, to the more simplified venue with an artistic touch, our backgrounds could not have been more inviting! We both were allowed three outfits for the shoot, each set becoming very adaptable to our surroundings while the cameras were rolling. My favorite background was a against an artsy house that was layered in Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night.” Once the pictures were published, we were stunned at how clear and clever the shots were. Of course, we critiqued some more than others, but overall we were very pleased with the final product. We plan to enlarge some shots to have displayed at our wedding venue for the reception on July 20th.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

We look forward to having a blast, making wonderful memories, and of course to being introduced as Mr. & Mrs. Shelton!

There is a rampant stereotype that athletes and jocks are womanizers. So when Jarrell Woods met Chanell Perry at Arizona State University, he had to prove that his status as a football player did not mean he was going to play games with her heart.  After some convincing, Chanell agreed to a date, and these college sweethearts have been together ever since.

Jarrell pulled off a charming proposal a week after Chanell’s 25th birthday.  Sadly, their dog had passed away two months before they were to move into their new home.  Chanell didn’t want another dog, so when Jarrell came home with a new puppy, she was confused.  Then Jarrell turned the puppy’s collar around, and hanging from it was a beautiful engagement ring. It took Chanell a while to process that it was not a joke, but after Jarrell confessed his love for her and asked Chanell to be his wife, she happily said, “Yes!”

This handsome couple is getting married in Paris this July! To celebrate their upcoming European nuptials, they teamed up with Natarsha N. Wright Photography for a gorgeous outdoor e-session in front of architectural elements in Washington, DC that have a European vibe. We wish Chanell and Jarrell all the best.

How They Met

We first met in college at Arizona State University in the summer of 2008; Jarrell was playing football there at the time. We talked on the phone and texted a few times after meeting. He insisted that we go out, but I wasn’t sure about it because he was an athlete. However, he did seem to be different, so I gave him a chance. We went on our first date, September 3, 2008, which was his birthday and we’ve been together ever since!

The Proposal

The proposal was very sweet, unique to us and completely unexpected. I had no idea what he had up his sleeve! He proposed to me on February 20, 2013, exactly a week after my 25th birthday. He’s the type of person that doesn’t believe an engagement should happen on a holiday, birthday or vacation; it should just be a day all of it’s own. We were actually in the process of packing to move into our brand new home we purchased. Our dog also unexpectedly passed away 2 months prior to that day, so he came home with a brand new puppy. I was confused because I didn’t want another dog. When I came home, he brought the puppy to me, turned her collar around and I saw my ring on it. I was so confused and actually thought it was a joke, until he began to confess his love for me and asked me to be his wife. I said YES, of course!!

The Engagement Session

My e-session was amazing! We are getting married in Paris, France this July, so the idea behind it was to capture elements that could be European. We live in Washington, DC where there are some beautiful buildings and we used the space at union station. I wanted my engagement pictures to match the theme of our wedding, but also to be us. We love traveling and exploring new places and I wanted our pictures to reflect that. My photographer Natarsha Wright was the best! I told her what I wanted and the shoot and location was all her! I knew what I wanted it to look like and it went beyond what I had envisioned.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

I’m looking forward to marrying the man of my dreams!

(Read about his romantic proposal here.)  Well this gorgeous couple just had a fabulous engagement party at the Newport News Marriott at City Center. Hollywood Glam Themed E-session in Atlanta

Terrell hit a lucky strike when he met Ashlynn during a freshman week bowling party at Clemson University. He did not know it, but one day he would call this woman his wife. Initially they became friends; it was not until their junior year that they began to test the waters of a romantic relationship. When they graduated, they moved to Atlanta where she is originally from; it is still contested whether he followed her there for love. They became very close very fast, as if they had known each other for year. There was never a question of whether or not they would be married, but when Terrell would ask her and seal the deal. On what she thought was a spontaneous trip to New York City he proposed while they were spinning atop The View, a revolving restaurant at the Marriot Marquis in Times Square. She happily agreed ready to begin building their lives together. For their engagement session, they decided on a Hollywood Glam theme, which is the same inspiration as their wedding. They hired Janet Howard Studio to turn their vision into reality as they headed to Centennial Park throughout Downtown Atlanta for their photo shoot. We hope the lovely couple all the best in their upcoming nuptials.

Isn’t this couple’s Save the Date so cute!

Save the Date no website (1)

How They Met

Ashlynn and Terrell met in 2004 during their first year at Clemson University. It was during a welcome week event for incoming freshmen hosted at the on-campus bowling alley, when a mutual friend introduced the two. There was definitely initial attraction between the two, but only a friendship would develop between them. It wasn’t until their junior year, after becoming best friends that they would find themselves falling for each other and decide to become more than “just friends.”

After college, Ashlynn and Terrell both moved to Atlanta, which was Ashlynn’s hometown (yes, he followed her and no, he will never admit it!). As both transitioned into post-college life and got a taste of what the “real world” was like, it became obvious early on that through thick and thin the bond they shared was incomparable. The two worked hard to set up their respective careers in hopes of starting a foundation to build their future together. It would soon become a question of “when” they would get married and not “if.”

The Proposal

Terrell planned a last minute trip to New York the weekend before Christmas; well what Ashlynn thought was a last minute trip. Terrell had been planning the trip for months and received blessings from Ashlynn’s parents to ask for her hand in marriage. The trip began with a day of fun in New York City visiting 9/11 monuments and other fun museums. Terrell told Ashlynn he had a romantic date planned in the city for later that night. What would soon become their most romantic date ever was at a restaurant called The View. It sat atop the New York Marriott Marquis on the 47th & 48th floors, and was the city’s only revolving restaurant. It had the best view of the entire city. Terrell shared his future vision of his life and mentioned to Ashlynn that he could not imagine his life without her! After a few playful gestures, in only Terrell fashion, he distracted Ashlynn by pointing out the altering view. After a few moments of gazing out at the view, Ashlynn would turn around to Terrell on bended knee with a ring box in hand and he asked her, “Will you marry me?” In total shock, Ashlynn asked repeatedly “Are you serious?” and after a few confirmations from Terrell, she gladly accepted. Ashlynn was completely surprised and had no idea Terrell was even thinking about proposing, it was exactly what they both wanted. It was a very romantic evening of dinner and drinks, followed by great music and dancing at a nearby lounge to celebrate. It was one of the most memorable nights for Ashlynn and Terrell.

The Engagement Session

The inspiration for our engagement session was the same inspiration for our wedding, “Hollywood Glam.” We had a creative idea to design a movie poster save the date and wanted to incorporate elegant engagement pictures. Our amazing wedding photographer Janet Howard captured all of our engagement images at some of our favorite places in downtown Atlanta. We then enlisted graphic designer Lamar Scott, with Gladiator Grafix, to design the movie poster save the date. We also wanted to show our personalities during the engagement shoot, and enjoyed working with Janet to capture various playful images in Centennial Park

Looking Forward to the Wedding

We are truly looking forward to having all of our close family and friends together for one night celebrating our union. We truly value the sanctity of marriage and want our loved ones to witness this next step in our journey. These are the people that mean the most to us and have supported and prayed for us throughout our 7-year relationship. It means the world to be able to share this moment with them.

Your teenage years can be an awkward time for romance, so when DaVina and Erik met in high school, they kept it on the friend level. They didn’t explore dating until they both graduated. Sadly, attending different colleges in Florida made dating somewhat difficult, and they eventually broke up. However, they remained friends, even talking daily until they decided to date again. Officially reunited, their relationship deepened quickly, and in 2013 Erik was ready to solidify his commitment.  Erik took DaVina on a post-Valentine’s Day dinner.  DaVina has a sweet tooth, so Erik decided to propose during dessert. DaVina shares, “The server presented me with a large box of decadent chocolate–with a gorgeous diamond engagement ring inside! Less than a second later Erik was on bended knee asking me to share a life with him.”

To celebrate their engagement this fun loving couple teamed up with Pics by the Moon to take pictures that were traditional yet playful. DaVina shares, “Our main goal was to incorporate a bit about our individual selves and of course to put our love for one another on display.” Their first look was more traditional with a dramatic flair; however, their second look was relaxed. DaVina thinks of Erik as her Superman, and he thinks of her as his Wonder Woman, so they wore t-shirts that paid homage to their alter-egos.  Snazzy Events will be planning their wedding and we wish DaVina and Erik all the best on their upcoming nuptials.

How They Met

We met in high school in Winter Garden, Florida a suburb of Orlando, FL. Throughout high school we had some friends in common and we were even friends ourselves, but we didn’t explore dating until after we had both graduated. Erik moved to Tallahassee, FL to attend Florida A&M University while I stayed in Orlando and attended the University of Central Florida. On breaks we made a point to see each other until one day we “fell into” dating. The first round didn’t last long, but we always remained friends, even talking daily. After college and a few relationships and re-locations later we found ourselves still friends, still talking daily and still interested in one another. In 2010, we were both in a position to take our relationship further. We dated long distance for a while but the relationship deepened when I moved to Atlanta, Georgia in 2011.

The Engagement Session

We didn’t have a theme in our engagement session. Our main goal was to incorporate a bit about our individual selves and of course to put our love for one another on display. For our engagement session, the location played a big role. I wanted something a bit eclectic so she chose the Goat Farm Arts Center in Atlanta. The Goat Farm is a repurposed Cotton Mill that is dated to the 1800s. Now it is used a multi-use, creative space where scenes from The Walking Dead and The Hunger Games have filmed.

Many of the poses in our photographs were natural. They just happened and our photographer captured the moment between us. Others were ideas that we got from Pintrest. They were all fun.

I describe our first look as leaning toward traditional but with some dramatic flair. We used props already in place at the Goat Farm as elements to depict our relationship and love. We are a case of opposites attracting. The more introverted and traditional Erik is met with outspoken and daring me.

Our second look was relaxed, playful, and of course still infused with our love. Erik became my Superman and I his Wonder Woman. In the second half of the session we got to show a little more of who we are at home. We cuddle and kiss. We are romantic but we also joke around and tease each other just like the kids we used to be. That’s a part of our history and relationship that we hope to never lose.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

We can’t wait to say ‘I do’ and then celebrate with all of our loved ones.

Nicole was apprehensive when her friend first mentioned setting her up with Malcolm, he was three years younger and she had never met him before. As fate would have it while out with friends she ran into him and their mutual friend introduced them. She was smitten. They hit it off immediately, began talking and were soon in a relationship. In 2013, he requested they celebrate Mother’s Day with both of their families, without her knowledge he spoke with her parents already and they were ready for the visit. He had planned a surprise engagement. While they were eating dinner he had a plate next to her with an engagement ring on it, she picked up the box he was turning her chair and taking a knee. For the engagement session, they planned an outdoorsy photo shoot with their photographer Catherine Guidry. We wish the happy couple a lovely wedding!

How They Met

Malcolm and I both attended the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. In 2010, a mutual friend told me that he was interested in meeting me, but having no idea who he was and hesitant because I was 3 years his senior, the message quickly slipped my mind. One evening while out with a few friends, the mutual friend I previously mentioned, was with him and a few of their friends and initiated an introduction between us. Soon after that, we began communicating on a daily basis and our relationship continued to evolve.

The Proposal

Prior to Mother’s Day in 2013, Malcolm introduced the idea of our families celebrating the holiday together over dinner. His family resides in Laplace and New Orleans, LA, about two hours east of Lafayette, where we attended school. As I was scrambling over the idea and asking my family if that was okay, unbeknownst to me, Malcolm had already mentioned the idea to my mom and dad and had asked my dad for my hand in marriage.

On May 12, 2013, I removed the napkin from the additional plate that accompanied our dessert, to find a little black box on my plate. In complete shock, I did not even notice Malcolm attempting to pull my chair around while already on one knee. Over dinner, in the presence of both of our families, Malcolm proposed!

The Engagement Session

We love to be outdoors so having an engagement session outside was ideal. We took the engagement photos at Jungle Gardens on Avery Island. It is a 170-acre botanical garden and bird sanctuary with gorgeous live oaks, ponds, & wildlife. We had no specific theme, but we tried our best to incorporate a few things we absolutely love to enjoy as a couple, like sushi & fishing.
Our photographer, Catherine Guidry, is amazing and helped to guide us through the engagement session.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

Malcolm: Seeing her walking towards me down the aisle & having all our family & friends enjoys the reception.

We had no specific theme, but we tried our best to incorporate a few things we absolutely love to enjoy as a couple, like sushi & fishing.
Our photographer, Catherine Guidry, is amazing and helped to guide us through the engagement session.

Instead of the usual ways most guys use to get girls in college Albert played out cool. Asking Denise for a piece of gum did not seem like a big deal, but it opened up dialogue between the two. Although they meet freshman year of college they built their friendship and didn’t date for a few years after meeting. Two years after making it official, he coaxed her back to their campus for an event Kappa Alpha Psi was having only to lead her to the classroom where they first met and popped the question. For their engagement shoot they choose Albert’s long time friend, AJ Shorter, to create a photo shoot that represented them as a couple. They had a playful and romantic shoot in Miami on the beach and around the city that the couple thought were amazing. We wish them all the luck on their upcoming nuptials!

How They Met

I met Albert in 2005 while in college. I was sitting in class and I felt someone tap me on my shoulder. I was ready for him to tell me some line but he just smiled and asked for a piece of gum. I was little taken back by the request but very intrigued at the same time. After that day, I made sure to always have gum on me and each day he asked. Our conversations begin to extend beyond Winterfresh and we became good friends. We did not date until a few years later. Then Albert had to move to California for a new job in 2007. We remained friends and in 2011, we decided to become official.

The Proposal

November 30th, 2013 Albert told me that we were going to a fraternity event on campus. As we were passing the classroom where we met, I looked to him and said, “Hey do you know where we are?” He played it off all cool like “oh yeah, and by the way we are not going to a Kappa event”. We turned the corner and the sidewalk was lined with candles and pictures of us, I looked up and saw a chair at the end of the walkway. I was greeted by someone singing my favorite John Legend song “So high” he handed me a rose and Albert asked me to take a seat. After the song was finished, Albert went on one knee and asked me to be his wife. I was shocked and super excited, of course I said yes! To cap the night off he planned a surprise party at my parent’s house with our friends and family. It was the best night of my life.

The Engagement Session

Our photographer AJ Shorter is a long time friend of Albert. One of the first things we did after becoming engaged was to met with AJ. Our engagement shoot was so much fun. AJ encouraged us to bring props and do things that represented us as a couple. We did shots with the Miami skyline in the background and at a park in Miami Beach. We had so much fun, we dance, laughed and in the end received amazing pictures.

A Fun and Scenic E-Session in Miami, FL

Valerie Celestin and Dimitri Augustin were born in the same town, and they both attended the University of Miami. However, they did not meet until mutual friends mentioned that they would be a great couple and arranged for them to meet. When they finally met, it was like a scene from a fairy tale. Valerie recalls, “literally [everyone in the room] vanished at the same moment and we were left staring at each other.”

Their relationship from that point on was filled with enchanted moments, including their proposal.  To pledge his eternal love, Dimitri decided to take Valerie on a romantic outdoor brunch behind a scenic waterfall. Afterward they rode to the beach, where they laid on the sand while Dimitri played the guitar and sang a song he wrote for Valerie. The last words to the lyrics contained Dimitri’s proposal!

Their engagement session with ArtPhotoSoul Photography was a reflection of who they are! They choose to shoot at a local beach in Miami where they incorporated red and blue colors as a tribute to their Haitian roots, and their second location was at their alma mater the University of Miami. We can’t wait to see pictures from their upcoming nuptials!

How They Met

We always wonder when we actually first met, but we know it was God’s plan. We were born in the same town, moved 1500 miles to South Florida, attended the same university, and volunteered for the same organization in Haiti. All this and it took mutual friends, who are much like aunts for the both of us, to put us in the same place at the same time. They knew our stories and started mentioning a mystery man to me. For a few days, that’s all they could talk about. One of them said we would make a great couple. Apparently, they were telling my future fiancé the same thing about me. I was baffled by the whole thing because I don’t ever recall talking about my relationship status with them. I started to have interest in that mystery man. Unexpected to their plan, they managed to introduce us to each other. They literally vanished at the same moment and we were left staring at each other. This marked our beginning.

The Proposal

Our schedules were very hectic at the time and we were not able to see each other for a few days. We finally decided to set up a lunch date; it seemed like a typical day in the middle of the week. We started with a romantic outdoor brunch behind a scenic waterfall; we had an amazing time. Afterwards, he drove to the beach, but I had no idea what he had planned. He handed me money for the meter and when I turned around I was completely shocked to see him; holding his guitar and a blanket. He said he wrote a song for me and wanted to play it. He started playing the song and I was overwhelmed with emotions as I listened to the lyrics. When I heard the last few words, I was ecstatic and wondering if I was dreaming. I felt the same way and I quickly said, yes! The song is one that only my ears have ever heard.

The Engagement Session

We wanted everything about our engagement session to reflect who we are. We started in the early morning at a local beach in Miami, Florida where we incorporated red and blue as a tribute to our Haitian roots. The beach was a reminder of our engagement venue. The second part of the engagement session occurred at our alma mater and ended with us dancing to Haitian music which left our photographer, Art Photo Soul, in tears. The entire day felt completely natural as if it was just the two of us.

Looking Forward to the Wedding

Styled Shoot: Bluebonnet Flowers and Balloons by Tomayia Colvin Photography

No matter where you are in the world, nothing brightens up the day more than pretty flowers.  And all that is even better when you’ve got two people in love added to the all the beauty.  In this inspiration shoot,  Tomayia Colvin Photography wanted a fun and free shoot in where nature takes center stage. She was inspired by the Texas state flower – the Bluebonnet – so various shades of blue were incorporated into the models’ attire.  We’re loving it all…and the couple, Nikki and Val, are super cute!

From Tomayia…

“This shoot was inspired by the beautiful Texas state flower the Bluebonnet. I wanted to capture the beauty of the spring and the once a year opportunity to shoot with the Bluebonnets. Nikki, fashion blogger and stylist and model for the shoot, gleamed with joy on the chance to style her very own session with her long time beau Tommie. I envisioned timeless beauty with denim and pops of color with fresh flowers and balloons. The session took place on a rural bayou in Kingwood nestled away from the busy city.”

Engagement Announcement: DeCharna and Shawn’s Engagement Shoot

On the day he proposed, Shawn spent the day trying to make DeCharna feel special even though she was having a stressful day at work. He began by sending her a dozen white roses, and then when she came home he sent her off to the spa before she even got over the threshold. In the time she spent getting a pedicure he was at home preparing a romantic meal and setting in motion a proposal no woman could deny. When he finally allowed her inside, she was given a blindfold as he regaled her with poetry they both admired. After dinner he showed her a handmade scrapbook with photos and poems, at the end was a picture of a box, when she turned to ask where it was taken he’d gotten on a knee and asked for her hand in marriage. For the engagement photo shoot, their photographer Scobey Photography captured the couple’s vibrant personality at various locations. We hope the couple has a beautiful destination wedding in Punta Cana next year!
